Michelle Barron is a beacon of leadership and versatility, with an impressive track record that spans over 20 years in the fields of economic development, planning, management, and public administration. Her career is a testament to her ability to navigate the complexities of both the private and public sectors, where she has harnessed her project management, administrative, and organizational skills to lead non-profit initiatives and drive impactful change.

Her professional journey commenced at the Buffalo Economic Renaissance Corporation, where Michelle’s role evolved through various administrative positions, ultimately leading to her promotion as Vice President of Neighborhood Development. In this role, she championed economic development programs for the City of Buffalo, bolstering small businesses, aiding minority contractors, and implementing Façade Improvement Programs to rejuvenate commercial districts.

Michelle’s career highlights underscore her dedication to fostering entrepreneurial spirit and community engagement. She was instrumental in developing the Entrepreneurial Assistance Program, and worked closely with local businesses, business associations, and residents to devise and enact economic development strategies tailored to specific neighborhood needs.

Her efforts and leadership have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the 2007 American Planning Association (APA) award for Best Practice, for her role in the CARE Market Study and Revitalization Plan. This project transformed a former East Utica library into a vibrant professional service incubator. Furthermore, in 2009, she received the Preservation Award for Rehabilitation/Adaptive Reuse for her contribution to the Beverly A. Gray Business Incubator.

In 2013, Michelle expanded her impact by taking on the role of Executive Director at Dress for Success Buffalo. Under her guidance, the program has been a cornerstone for women seeking to enter the workforce, offering an array of programs, resources, and professional attire. To date, Dress for Success Buffalo has supported over 3,500 women, affirming Michelle’s commitment to empowering individuals and catalyzing community development.
